The researcher explored the concept of parental involvement in our public school system focusing on the development and implementation of research-based practices across grade levels. These practices were reviewed using the language register work of Ruby Payne and the parental involvement standards developed by Joyce Epstein as the basis for discussion and evaluation. The research focused on how governmental policy impacts parental involvement programs, looking specifically at the Goals 2000 and No Child Left Behind Legislation.;The research review focused on research findings according to educational grade levels (K-5, Middle School [6-8] and High School [9-12]) to provide a cohesive picture of the concept of parent involvement. The analysis was based on: peer-reviewed research articles regarding parental involvement, research on family socio-economics, and current federal educational policy and regulations as they relate to parent involvement.
