A field theory of mind and consciousness.

This theoretical dissertation proposes that Mind and matter evolved together out of the Psi field of the quantum vacuum. Following a review of the neurochemical and neurophysiological processes of brain and data supportive of the independent existence of the Mind, it is argued that Mind is a field that arises from the Psi field parallel to the brain's development during gestation. Mind is exquisitely attuned to and interacts with the brain via local fields arising from the electrical and neurochemical activity of networks of neurons. Of particular importance in these interactions are the reciprocal biogenic amine pathways between the brainstem, the thalamus, and the cortex. It is further argued that Mind also continues to interact with the Psi field; however, that interaction is usually swamped by the Mind-brain interaction. During altered states of consciousness, the brainstem pathways are modulated and the Mind-Psi field interaction becomes more dominant. The knowledge, experiences, and abilities resulting from these interactions are Consciousness. The psi or paranormal experiences of extrasensory perception (ESP) and psychokinesis (PK) are examples of Consciousness.
