摘要

The purpose of this study was to analyze moment of inertia measurement methodologies for a rigid body by frequency analysis of an unequal length support bifilar pendulum. Original work included in this study is the two-degree-of-freedom analysis of the bifilar pendulum with unequal length supports using Lagrangian dynamics. The 2 degrees of freedom analyzed were the swinging and torsional modes.; Background is provided regarding inadequacies of a prior methodology, followed by improved results. Goals were to obtain a methodology with minimal setup time to obtain a maximum of information, which did not require large rotations of the body.; Measurements of 2 moments of inertia and 1 product of inertia are obtained with the analysis herein. These are critical values for vehicle dynamics simulation of numerous vehicle types. It was determined, however, that even with the herein made improvements that the results were still undesirable.
