凯瑟琳·曼斯菲尔德晚期短篇小说的现代主义特征

摘要

作为英国文学史上为数不多的短篇小说巨匠，凯瑟琳·曼斯菲尔德(1888-1923)被认定为最重要的短篇小说作家之一，她的短篇小说受现代主义影响颇深，同时，她也影响了现代主义短篇小说的发展进程。
　　本文旨在研究曼斯菲尔德在短篇小说中的现代主义写作技巧。为了更准确抓住她的写作特征，本文选取了曼斯菲尔德晚期的小说作品，《幸福集》和《花园舞会集》为研究对象。本文的正文部分共分为5章，第一章介绍了曼斯菲尔德不同时期的写作特征及国内外对曼斯菲尔德的短篇小说研究;第二章到第四章分别从意识流、象征主义和无情节小说这三个方面对曼斯菲尔德晚期的《幸福集》和《花园舞会集》中的写作技巧进行了集中讨论。曼斯菲尔德是意识流作家的先驱，也是最早将写作重点从故事情节转到人物心理的作家之一;并且，曼斯菲尔德对20实际20年代之后的短篇小说结构产生了很大影响。第五章将曼斯菲尔德的写作技巧与同时期的作家—弗吉尼亚·伍尔芙以及詹姆斯·乔伊斯—进行了比较。
　　虽然曼斯菲尔德的短篇小说作品并不如其他小说家那么多，但是却和同时期的詹姆斯·乔伊斯以及弗吉尼亚·伍尔芙一起被认定为重要的英国作家。尽管曼斯菲尔德的作品受到很多其他作家的影响，但她不仅仅局限于模仿他人，而是形成了自己独特的现代主义写作风格。
