文化语境顺应视角下刘姥姥话语英译研究

摘要

自1923年Malinowski创造出“情景语境”(Context of situation)这一术语以来，语境已成为任何一种语用学理论必不可少的支柱之一。近年来国内外学者对语境的研究兴趣愈浓，成果颇多。本文从Jef.Verschueren的语境关系适应论的角度出发，对《红楼梦》中刘姥姥话语的霍克斯译本进行探索性分析，探讨文化语境顺应对话语翻译的启示及指导作用。
　　 翻译是一种跨文化的交际活动，译者在翻译过程中需要顺应文化语境才能使翻译活动顺利进行，达到等效翻译的效果。没有文化语境的顺应，译者很难正确的理解原文和准确地用目的语表达原文含义。在理解原文的阶段，译者顺应原文的文化语境正确理解原文含义；在用目的语表达的阶段，译者顺应目的语读者的文化语境，使目的语读者能够准确理解译文含义。话语翻译与一般的文本翻译相比更为复杂，因为话语翻译还要顺应发话者的文化语境。总之文化语境顺应是一个动态的过程。
　　 《红楼梦》是中国古典小说的巅峰之作，是清朝社会历史的百科全书。作者曹雪芹在书中塑造了一百多个典型人物，这些人物个性分明，生动形象。作者刻画人物的技巧，特别是通过人物的个性语言展示人物个性特征的写作手法成为了中国后期的小说创作的楷模。刘姥姥这一人物在曹雪芹笔下着墨并不多，但这一人物形象却深得人心。她饱经世故，圆滑老练，但不失热情善良；她地位低下，身份卑微，却不失幽默乐观。这些个性特征是在特定的文化语境下形成，并在她的话语中反映出来的。因此在翻译刘姥姥话语的过程中，动态地顺应文化语境，才能将蕴含在活语中人物个性生动地再现给目的语读者。
　　 本文以刘姥姥话语的顺应翻译为实例，分析话语翻译应顺应三个方面的文化语境，即顺应心理语境、顺应社会语境和顺应物理语境。心理语境的顺应主要分析顺应发话者的心理语境和目的语读者的心理语境；社会语境的顺应包括顺应社会规范、宗教背景以及习语等；物理语境的顺应指时间指称的顺应和空间指称的顺应。只有动态地顺应了这三方面的文化语境才能准确地理解和表达原作的意义，将原作品中的人物形象生动地再现给目的语读者。
　　 当原文中含有目的语读者无法理解的含义时，应当优先考虑顺应目的语读者的文化语境。在以交流为目的的翻译中，读者完全地接受译文并得到与原文读者相同的感受，才算达到了等效翻译的目的。
