从语用学角度看蓄意歧义——以《老友记》为实际研究

摘要

歧义作为一种普遍存在的语言现象,一直备受学者们的关注。歧义从交际效应的角度可以分为两类:蓄意歧义和无意歧义。前者是语言使用者为达到一定的交际目的而使用的一种交际策略,后者是语言结构矛盾的体现,应该避免和消除。目前,语言学家们主要关注于歧义的分类,蓄意歧义和无意歧义的区分,以及如何消除无意歧义。本文主要讨论的是蓄意歧义。
　　鉴于蓄意歧义本身的特殊性,笔者认为应当全面系统地分析这一语言现象。本研究基于以Sperber和Wilson提出的关联理论为框架,从语用学的角度分析美国情景喜剧《老友记》里的蓄意歧义,以揭示关联理论如何解释蓄意歧义,蓄意歧义实现的方式,及其语用功能。
　　本文从关联理论的角度解释蓄意歧义得出以下结论,从寻求最大关联到最佳关联的过程中,语言使用者利用蓄意歧义实现的交际效果弥补了其额外付出的努力,这也就使语言使用者获得的额外效果。正如论文里表明的那样,通过分析《老友记》里从语音、语义、句法、修辞、语境以及间接言语行为引起的蓄意歧义,得出的另一个结论是,蓄意歧义可以帮助我们实现遵守礼貌原则,维护双方面子,保护自我,避免双方矛盾,实现交际目的,完成交际任务等功能。
　　本文以《老友记》为实例,从语用学角度来研究蓄意歧义是一次新的尝试,可以指导语言使用者尽可能全面、系统地理解蓄意歧义的使用特点,帮助语言使用者正确和恰当地运用蓄意歧义这种策略,达到特别的交流目的,也对英语学习有一定启示作用。因此正确理解和使用蓄意歧义对成功地进行言语交际有着重要意义。
