The Qinling Long Sized Road Tunnel (Qinling Tunnel) is the longest road tunnel in China. Torninvestigate the behaviours of fire and to propose an effective ventilation measure to fight fires in thernQinling Tunnel, two large-scaled model tunnel was established and a series of fire testing werernconducted. The scopes of the testing are: (1) general behaviours of fire; (2) applicable fire ventilationrnmeasures when fire occurs at the various positions of the tunnel. The results show: (1) the temperature,rnpressure and smoke flow vary significantly with air velocity and fire load; (2) According to the firernload applied and ventilation condition, the temperature reached the maximum value within 2-10 minrnafter ignition; 3) the forced ventilation has both positive and negative effects on fires; (4) when firernbreaks out in the Qinling Tunnel, the effective ventilation measure should be applied according to firernposition, fire load and evacuation procedures.
