EDUCATION ON SUSTAINABLE ENERGY IN THE EU

A EU network has been established to promote and co-ordinate activities to facilitatethe education on sustainable energy, mainly at the university level. A directory ofsustainable education programmes in some EU countries has been created and it ishoped to shortly be extend the information to all EU countries. Mechanisms have beendeveloped to assist professors on renewable and sustainable energy matters to preparetheir courses with materials made available by other professors of the network. It hasgenerated a momentum helping to introduce RE matters into the regular curricula of theuniversities, both in conventional “attended study” and “long distance” education.Countries with no or little education on RE have showed great interest. Guidelines forthe implementation of full curricula for degrees on renewable or sustainable energyhave been established. The NESE project has been financed by the EC 5th FrameworkProgramme.
