Management Architecture of Voice-over-Packet Gateway in the Converged Networks

To improve the use of the communication infrastructure and to minimize investment and operation cost, voice and data networks are moving towards convergence. For a smooth evolution to the converged networks, gateways are needed to integrate the functionality and features of traditional circuit switching with advanced packet switching techniques to provide end-to-end converged multimedia services. To adapt future technologies easily and provide multi services with a single physical network, the architecture of gateway should meet some requirements such as multi-plane system model, the separation of call control and service from switching, integrated gateway network management, and switch resource partition. This paper proposes the management architecture of the voice-over-packet gateway meeting those requirements. The management process flows under the architecture are discussed.
