Experimental research on the mixing and reaction processes with an alternative rotation of two eccentric cylinders is performed. In the chaotic region, the mixing and reaction is enhanced. On the other hand, in the regular region, the mixing and reaction hardly occur. The ratio of θ_i and θ_o, that is θ_i/θ_o , has a significant effect on the chaotic characteristic. As θ_i/θ_o is increased, the reaction takes place in a wider region. The eccentricity ε plays an important role as well as 萠i/θ_o. The local Lyapinov exponent, which is experimentally estimated, is significantly higher in the chaotic region than that in the regular region. In the chaotic region, the reaction is much enhanced at the region where the Lyapunov exponent is larger. These suggest that the Lyapunov exponent is a useful parameter to predict where the chemical reaction is enhanced.
