Modeling Approaches for Routing and Selection Mechanisms of Resources in Construction Processes

Petri Nets (PNs) provide a framework for modeling construction operations. However, some important behaviors in construction cannot be modeled with ease solely by common PN approach. Such behaviors comprise routing and selection of resources. Using common PN constructs as a basis, this research adds some new elements to PNs to render them more convenient for the modeling of resource routing and selection mechanisms in construction operations. The modifications make the PN-based approaches more suitable as a construction-process modeling tool.
