A Flexible Slide-In System for Computer-Assisted Musicological Analysis

Although there are several specialized applications for computer assisted musicological analysis, these solutions are most often restricted to very specific analytic questions and can only be used by a quite limited group of users on a single platform. This paper discusses the various complications that have to be dealt with when trying to design a comprehensive but flexible, user-friendly analysis system that can be used by a wide range of musicologists even if they are not expert computer users. It then describes the highly customizable JRing system which realizes many of the aspects of this ideal.
