The initial postbuckling behavior of imperfection sensitive elastic structures can be unproved substantially by specific modes of stiffening. The aim of this paper is to present mathematical relations identifying the transition from imperfection sensitivity to insensitivity in consequence of variation of design parameters. Koiter's initial postbuckling analysis is applied in the context of the Finite Element Method (FEM). An essential ingredient of a special form of accompanying linear eigenvalue analysis, representing the so-called "consistently linearized eigenproblem", plays an important role in the derivation of these mathematical relations.
