The method involves determining a parameter, which renders an aging condition of a heating coil (W1). The determined coil aging parameter is supplied to an electronic control and/or regulation circuit, and is evaluated by the circuit. An operation parameter necessary for the operation of the coil is controlled depending on the determined coil aging parameter. The consumption of an emitter substance applied on the coil is used as the coil aging parameter.
