FRENCH SURVEY ABOUT THE EUROPEANSTATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES FOR HMI OF INVEHICLESYSTEMS

In 2000, the European Commission adopted the European 'Statement ofPrinciples' (ESoP) regarding the HMI for in-vehicle telematics. ESoP gathers a set ofrecommendations dealing with system design as well as installation with the concern of roadsafety issues. The original equipment manufacturers (OEM) for automotive made an officialvoluntary agreement to follow these European guidelines when designing their systems.INRETS was commissioned by the French government to assess impact of these ESoP withinthe French industry. A survey has been conducted to investigate current knowledge andapplication of the ESoP and produced recommendations for future HMI.
