Based on the most advanced scientific tools, SNCF has developed and daily optimized simulation environments dedicated to electric traction design. On one hand, ESMERALDA simulates the electric behaviour of fixed installations. On the other hand, OSCAR simulates the pantograph-catenary dynamics. Both tools are daily used by our team of SNCF expert engineers to help our clients meet their needs. Such consulting services have been successfully provided to clients in Africa, America, Asia and Europe. The paper details the software functionalities and performances for the different types of studies that can be performed, i. e. design for electrification or regeneration, maintenance or incident expertise as well as R&D.
