Heavy shear reinforcement is intensively placed at the ends of splicing sleeve joint in Pca members. Thisis called Intensive Shear Reinforcement (ISR). It was presented at 11WCEE that the shear reinforcementin the splicing sleeve zone could be removed when ISR is arranged. If ISR is placed in addition to theregular shear reinforcement, both shear capacity and splitting bond capacity increase, and as a result theductility increases. The test results were presented at 12WCEE. In this paper, ISR was placed at the endsof the splicing sleeve joint of pre-fabricated reinforcement assembly in order to compensate no-bondresistance on the sleeve surface. RC beams with splicing sleeve joint in mid span were tested. Thesplitting bond capacity increased, even if the bond resistance was removed from the sleeve surface. Thecompression force acting at the end of the sleeve forms a truss mechanism in cooperation with ISR anddiagonal concrete strut, and it effectively compensates no-bond resistance on the sleeve surface. A designrecommendation to determine the amount of ISR was proposed on the basis of the analytical model. Alarger amount of ISR increases both splitting bond capacity and shear capacity. The evaluation method forcapacities was also discussed using a modified strut-tie model.
