Fabrication of an Intracellular Enzyme Biosensor by Sacrificed Cell Cultivability with Extracellular Scaffold

The living cells or the purified enzymes generally have been applied for industrial bioprocesses and biosensors. However, they preparation methods have some disadvantages, such as harsh conditions for cell growth, the substrate and product control for the living cells (1), complicated operation, and expensive cost (2). The cells, in the state which were between the programmed survival forms and the death's door, were called viable but nonculturable (VBNC) cells (3). Under the VBNC state, bacteria are unable to form colonies in normal growth media but are still viable and endowed with metabolic activity.
