Can and bottle collation shrink film packaging is seeing significant market growth today. Bottled water, soft drinks, juices and alcoholic beverages are frequently sold in collation film shrink-wrapped cases.Shrink film manufacturers are required by their customers to optimize shrink collation film packaging strength and performance. Physical demands on the package during conveying, transport, retail stocking and consumer handling can be extreme. Expectations of the bottler are focused on reducing losses throughout the transportation and end-use chain.Today's collation shrink film manufacturers understand the influence of both polyethylene resin selection and extrusion processing conditions on the performance of a collation shrink film. This paper will review new test methods using a commercial shrink packaging tunnel. These methods are designed to characterize key aspects of collation shrink film end performance. Based on these methods, several film structures and their shrink performance will be discussed.The primary topics covered in this paper will include:1 Blown Film Extrusion Considerations2 New Shrink Tunnel Methods3 Polyethylene Type - Influences on Collation Shrink Film Performance.
