摘要

The removal of a proximal stenosis or other geometrical features such as curvature of the parent artery during endovascular interventions of intracranial aneurysms with flow diverting devices can cause a substantial increase in the intra-aneurysmal pressure which can potentially cause the rupture of the aneurysm. Although it is not entirely clear that this is the actual mechanism by which the particular aneurysm analyzed in this study ruptured, this is an important effect that should be considered when planning endovascular interventions with flow diverting devices. Patient-specific CFD models can predict these pressure changes and thus help in the treatment planning process.
