Effect of interfacial roughness between YSZ (ZrO_2·8molY_2O_3) electrolyte membrane and Ni-YSZ cermet anode layer, and LSM (La_(0.85)Sr_(0.15)MnO_3) cathode layer on the electrochemical reaction was investigated by sintering the above mentioned electrode layers on each side of the roughened surfaces of the electrolyte membrane. The electric potential and power density for the newly manufactured solid oxide fuel cell were improved especially in the higher range of current density. The result is presumably derived from the increased cell reaction site distributed over the increased actual contact area , because of which a 3-dimensional structure was created at the interface between the electrolyte and the electrode layers.
