Most of the separation technologies with high capacities in mineral processing are based on wetrnprocesses. This applies especially for the separation of fines. Though there are some dry technologiesrnavailable for the separation of coarse materials, like pneumatic gravity separation (air jigs and airrntables), magnetic separation and sensor based sorters, dry separation of fines is bounded mostly onrncost intensive and low capacity technologies. This paper gives an overview of the newly developedrndry density separator AKA-FLOW. The test results showed that this technology offers a performancernclose or equal to wet processes and opens new fields of applications. Even in instances whererncomplete separation cannot be achieved by the dry gravity process, it is often desirable to producerna pre-concentrate. This pre-concentrate product (with less mass) can then be further concentratedrnor processed by more expensive, perhaps environmentally sensitive, techniques to produce the finalrndesired product.
