Availability and reliability arre the key factors determining the plant income, but new, unproven designs offer higher efficiency and lower capital cost, usually at the expense of availability, rreliability, flexibility and maintenance costs. Overall, the paper atte,mpts to identify where, why and when the risks arise in these projects and to provide some quantification of the potential ensuing commercial lsses. It concludes with a look at how the future may develop.
