Benchmark problem 3 of the International Workshop on Long-Wave Runup Models is solved using a 2D finite element model, based on the primitive form of the shallow water equations. A notable features of the model is the Eulerian-Lagrangian treatment of advective terms, which enables the use of potentially very large Courant numbers. Results show acceptable agreement with data for case A, but increasingly poorer agreement for cases B and C, as the physics of the laboratory experiments deviates increasingly from shallow water condictions. Formal analysis helps illustrate the impact of DELTAx and DELTAt on the numerical accuracy of the model.
