The increasing orbital debris population represents arngrowing risk to operational satellites on-orbit and alsornto populations and properties on-ground. Todayrnavailable space surveillance data allow a betterrnimplementation of protection activities which are nowrnpart of operational services. The overall frame of thesernactivities at CNES is given by a strategic plan definingrnthe long term views and the corresponding activities tornbe carried out during the next years. This plan, rnestablished in close cooperation with French Defencernorganizations, includes, among others, two operationalrnspace traffic control activities: prevention of on-orbitrncollisions and atmospheric re-entries predictions.rnThis paper presents first the national organizationrnrelative to these activities together with the internalrnCNES process starting from a high level roadmap, uprnto a detailed action plan. This plan contains operationalrnactivities and supporting studies and modelsrndevelopment.rnThe content of this plan is given with a focus onrnoperational activities dealing with space traffic control.
