Considering conflicting research findings on the impact ofrnmultimedia on perceived skill development, this researchrninvestigates whether intervening variables such as tasktechnologyrnfit factors might explain the difference in thernfindings. A pilot study was conducted where 39 studentsrnworked on a case study using both paper-based andrnmultimedia based technologies. The findings from thernpilot study suggested a strong indirect relationshiprnbetween multimedia and perceived skill development withrnlearning-driven constructs playing a major role. Anrnexploratory factor analysis design employing a structuralrnequation model will be used to further investigate whetherrnother intervening variables such as the inclusion of anrnexpert choice software, gender, and student major wouldrninfluence perceived skill development.
