ENVIRONMENT-AWARE RUNWAY ALLOCATION ADVICE SYSTEM

When selecting a runway for use, air trafficrncontrollers must take into account technical asrnwell as social and environmental factors. ThernRunway Allocation Advice System, RAAS,rnsupports tower and approach supervisor airrntraffic controllers in making well-informedrndecisions on runway allocation and helpsrnexplaining and justifying these decisions tornsurrounding communities and authoritiesrnconcerned. The system is currently in operationrnat Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AAS) andrnBasel Euro Airport. Both airports operate arnnoise preferential runway system, whichrnimplies that the use of runways is, within thernsafety limits, imposed by noise regulations.
