Investigating the Multivariate Granger Causality Between Residential CO_2 Emissions, Population and Economic Growth in Morocco

摘要

This paper examines the causality between residential CO_2 emissions, population, urbanization, economic growth and residential energy intensity in Morocco from 1990 to 2016 by using the Toda-Yamamoto and Granger causality tests. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag bounds-test approach are employed to test for cointegration relationship. The results show that there is a stable long run relationship amongst the variables. The causality tests reveal that there is a unidirectional Granger causality from residential energy intensity to residential CO_2 emissions. Also, we found that population and economic growth does not directly affect the CO_2 emissions of the residential sector. They pass through residential energy intensity to indirectly explain the dynamics of RCO_2 emissions in Morocco.
