The Mie theory is frequently used to predict the attenuation of rain drops on millimeter wave propagation. The Mie theory assumes no interaction between two adjacent rain drops. Though a few multi-layer and multi-scattering models have been proposed for more accurate calculation, these methods are more or less based on numerical iteration. In this paper, we examined the possibility of using equivalent dielectric model for the calculation of millimeter wave attenuation. Several temperatures are investigated over the temperature range of 0–40°C. Attenuations are calculated at 20°C as an example.
