Polymer reinforced concrete is gradually becoming popular; due mainly to the damage caused to steel elements by corrosion. But the effect of temperature on polymer reinforced slabs has not been critically looked into. This paper described the construction of concrete fa?ade reinforced with polymer (polyethylene) rod and steel reinforcements. Ten number model sized elements of area 0.15m~2 and a depth of 40mm were considered, some models were exposed to an elevated temperature of 50°C for six hours (average temperature for a desert area), all samples were subjected to incremental load of 1 kN until failure. Thermal expansion, deflections and crack width were measured for each element. Deflection in steel reinforced fa?ade exposed to elevated temperature was 11.20mm while that of polymer was 12.72 mm. The study concluded that the low thermal effect on polymer reinforced concrete is a result of low thermal conductivity of polymer.
