The purpose of this paper is to document the development and initial performance testing of Lithium-ion based 12V and 24V batteries built to meet the physical dimension requirements of the 6T form factor per MIL-PRF-32143. By using Lithium-ion cells as the basis for the battery designs, EaglePicher can now offer a 6T battery with improved power density, energy density and cycle life over existing lead acid alternatives. This effort focused on packaging currently available commercial Lithium-Ion cell technology into a Gen 1 battery design for evaluations by commercial trucking fleets and the military for performance testing and field data collection.
