This research considers the principle of technical solutions aimed at improving the energy efficiency of electric arc furnaces (EAF) and ladle-furnace units (LF), such as the system of diagnostics of the melting stage of charge by higher harmonics of arc currents and voltages, as well as non-linear adaptive P-impedance controller. As a natural step of research in this direction, the structure of the electrical mode control system has been developed in which these solutions are integrated. The result of using this system in practice is an increase in the technical and economic performance of the electric steelmaking complex due to more accurate diagnostics of the charge melting stage, as well as ensuring adjustment of the control system of the hydraulic drive of electrode movement to the technical optimum in the entire range of working arc lengths.
