Performance Evaluation of an IPv6 IoT Network Based on 802.11 Standard

Over the course of the last few years, people have begun to acknowledge the full potential imposed by the smart devices, also known as "Internet of Things". The use of these devices is increasing day-by-day, from authentication devices to home automation and even weather forecast. A lot of emphasis is being made about how to use it and what it is for. Amidst all these discussions, an important problem has been brought up. The latter is the networking protocol used in the intercommunication between these devices. The IPv4 protocol is being completely depleted by the enormous number of devices. While a lot has tried to overcome this problem by using 6L0WPAN an adapter layer, the drawback remains visible due to the lack of range and small data rate. This paper aims at developing an IPv6 IoT network based on the 802.11 standard while overcoming weaknesses associated with using them on tiny Internet of Things devices.
