Digital game-based learning has been recognized by researchers as being an effective approach for promoting students' learning motivation.Nevertheless, few studies have been conducted to investigate the effect of personal factors on students' motivation when learning with educational computer games.Among various personal factors, learning styles have been widely discussed and considered as being an important factor that affects students' learning performance.In this paper, we investigate the effect of learning styles on students' motivation of learning with two versions of an educational gamed developed based on the sequential and global dimension of the learning style proposed by Felder and Silverman. The experimental results on 252 students show that, the style-matching students had significantly higher motivation than those non-matching students.Moreover, the 2x2 factorial analysis results showed that the sequential style students tended to have significantly higher motivation while learning with style-matching games than the global style students.
