The photoelectrochemical performance of six naturally occurring semiconducting sulfide minerals is investigated to simply and quickly evaluate their photovoltaic potential. The direct optical band gaps determined for these minerals are 1.36 eV for Enargite, 1.40 eV for Chalcostibite, 1.67 eV for Stephanite, 1.29 eV for Bournonite, 1.43 eV for Jamesonite and 1.66 eV for Gratonite, all in the range of usefulness for single or multijunction solar cells.
