As the demand for small diameter vascular grafts is constantly increasing and currently available materials show high failure rates, new solutions are needed. One of the reasons for poor patency of small diameter vascular grafts on the long term is the proliferation of intima hyperplasia in the lumen of the graft. In this study, an antiproliferative drug, paclitaxel, is incorporated into biodegradable polycaprolactone vascular grafts for a localized inhibition of intima hyperplasia.
