We experimentally demonstrate a tri-layered metamaterial absorber/emitter at infrared frequencies. The fabricated tri-layered metamaterial structure consists of the top gold structured layer which is separated from a thin film of gold by a ZnS spacer layer in the middle. The structure simultaneously shows high absorption at two resonant wavelengths; First, a narrow band absorption at 12.5 μm; second, a relatively broadband absorption at 4.5 μm. Thermal absorptivity of the structure shows resemblance to a blackbody-like spectral characteristic.
