Twenty eight years ago,at the 14~(th)European Peptide Symposium in Wepion,Belgium,I was invited to present a memorial lecture:"J.Rudinger's contribution to structure-activity relationships of peptide hormones:a biologist's view".Josef Rudinger, whose 80~(th)birthday we remember this year, passed away one year before,51 years old. When going through that old text of mine,1 am indeed impressed how little the achievements of Joe Rudinger's generation have lost from their significance. It would,of course,be useless to solely repeat what was already said almost three decades earlier. My effort will therefore be to address the roots out of which our present knowledge of neurohypophyseal hormones had grown, and the role of biologists in what we call today "structure-activity relationships studies".
