Commercial applications of UV/EB curable coatings and inks were introduced in the 1960's, and the technology has been widely adopted due to productivity and environmental advantages. However, myths and misconceptions about safety, performance and cost continue to hinder broader acceptance of UV/EB technology. This paper addresses the origin of typical misconceptions and provides a rational analysis of the factual data. Contrary to some common misconceptions, UV/EB coatings, inks and adhesives are safe and capable of meeting even the most demanding performance requirements. When UV/EB curing technology is a good fit for the intended application, it offers coating and printing solutions that are efficient, extremely low in emissions, and very cost competitive.
