Ultrafiltration membrane technology was evaluated in a three month pilot testing program for complete removal of total suspended solids from an aerated lagoon effluent. The aerated lagoons treat the process-derived industrial wastewater from a table olive packing industry. Gravity settling methods historically utilized for the aerated lagoon effluent have seasonally required further treatment through chemical addition/dissolved air flotation and/or discharge to the municipal facility for further treatment. Membrane separation will allow for complete industrial effluent discharge to the receiving water, bypassing the municipal WWTP, effectively increasing the available hydraulic and treatment capacity within the municipal facility.
