This paper compares a vector quantisation and a gaussian network in terms of their potential to implement pattern based controllers. The networks arc trained as an adaptive agent, which translate response patterns into predictions of the mismatch between the current internal model and those which restore the desired performance. Several simulation examples illustrate the performance of these controllers
