This paper proposes an efficient adaptive energy management system to mitigate the load power fluctuation in a grid integrated hybrid energy storage system. The transient high frequency component of the power fluctuation is smoothed by the super-capacitor whereas, the low frequency power fluctuation is addressed by the battery energy storage. The proposed control technique adapts its control parameters automatically to distribute power between the energy storages based on their state of charge. The proposed control is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment with a modified triple active bridge DC-DC converter under various operating conditions and simulation results are presented to verify the superiority of the system. A laboratory prototype of the entire system is also developed and corresponding experimental results are presented to validate the control operation.
