There has been widespread study of 1-3 type piezoelectric composite material, which is a new type of piezoelectric material that has wide bandwidth, high sensitivity, low weight, and high transmitting voltage response. In this paper, theoretical analysis and previous processing technology research are combined with the practical acoustic engineering requirements for vector hydrophones underwater to compare the performance of resonant vector hydrophones made of 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials and ordinary piezoelectric materials, and so establish which material is best. Under the same experimental conditions, the tests compared the directivity and the pressure sensitivity of vector hydrophones made of 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials and ordinary piezoelectric materials. The results show that the sensitivity of vector hydrophone made of 1-3 piezoelectric composite materials is higher by about 2 dB-7 dB than the PZT vector hydrophone. The test results show that the Co-vibrating vector hydrophone made of 1-3 type piezoelectric materials has an obvious advantage and so has broad application prospects.
