Strontium bismuth niobate (SBN) is a bismuth layered perovskite oxide compound. It is an attractive ferroelectric material due to its very low operating voltages and relatively high Curie temperature. Due to its ferroelectric properties it has applications in non-volatile random-access memory cells. The present work describes the formation of BLSFs ceramics Sr_(0.7)Bi_(2.2)Nb_2O_9 corresponding to formula Sr_(0.7)Bi_(2.2-x)Er_xNb_2O_9 (x=0.0, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) using conventional solid-state reaction method. The structural and morphological study has been done on the properties of Er~(+3) in the SBN ceramics. The XRD on both these compounds reveals that the crystal structure of SBN-xEr and SBN remains the same with a slight difference in their lattice parameters. The grain Er~(+3) substituted Sr-deficient and Bi-excess SBN (deficient Strontium bismuth niobate: Sr_(0.7)Bi_(2.2-x)Er_xNb_2O_9) was found to have enhancement in grain growth. From the Fe-SEM study it has been observed that Er~(+3) doping first promotes the grain growth and then suppress.
