OsO4, although a highly toxic and volatile oxidant, has become a classic reagent in organic synthesis. Its mild and selective reactivity towards C-C double bonds has been extensively elaborated in solution chemistry, resulting in the plethora of highly efficient oxidation processes available nowadays.1,2
