Residential landscape minimize indoor temperature in tropical climate: Myth or reality

In a tropical climate, outdoor environment is clearly warmer than indoor due to higher air temperatures. Since the indoor environment is influenced by its surroundings, this situation indirectly contributes to the discomfort condition. Thus, the dependence on mechanical ventilation and energy consumption will increase. Plants are viewed to be useful elements that relieve a higher air temperature in an urban area. Strategical ly placed plants around a building could decrease the energy consumption in buildings by reducing the adverse impact of some climate elements. However, it is difficult to estimate the quantitative relation between plants, thermal environment and energy. Overall, this paper aims to analyze the relationships between the amount of plants and climatic parameters in a residential area. The different landscape density around two Semi-Detached houses were study in term of building configuration, landscape design and climatic parameters such as air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity in this paper.
