In order to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions initiated by sharp increasing population of passenger cars, lightweight materials have been widely used in passenger cars. But different kinds of lightweight materials will yet emit different kinds and amounts of GHG, not only in driving stage. So it was important to calculate GHG emissions caused by the lightweight (LW) to passenger car from lifecycle perspective. In this paper, body in white (BIW) made by high-strength steel (HSS) was replaced with primary and recycled aluminum alloy and GHG emissions in lifecycle have been calculated. From lifecycle perspective, GHG emissions of modified passenger cars using primary and recycled aluminum alloy were lower than normal ones; and using recycled aluminum can extremely reduce GHG emissions in lifecycle.
