Ecological tangible metaphor: How to create serene experience in information display

摘要

This paper aims at exploring a methodology to create serene experience in information display and interactive design. It clarifies the meaning and attributes of serenity in information display. Based on Gestalt cognitive psychology and metaphor theory, this paper proposes Ecology Tangible Metaphor (ETM) method to infuses serene experience within tangible display in information display. Allowing with ETM guideline, 4 designers administered a prototype Plantemp. Through a qualitative contrast experiment between ETM prototypes and normal digital information display prototypes, data analysis of 44 participants questionnaires show that ETM method has a positive effect on serenity arousal.
