摘要

Flow-mediated dilation (FMD) is the most commonly used noninvasive method for assessing vascular endothelial function. This method evaluates the endogenous nitric oxide production rate based on the magnitude of flow-induced vasodilation. However, this vasodilation is caused by the multilayer structure of the vascular wall, which suggests that FMD response includes information related to various physical properties. We previously developed a mathematical model for vasomotor response based on physiological mechanisms. In this study, we numerically evaluated this model, and the results showed that FMD response independently provides information on the physical properties of the vascular wall, as well as the endothelial function.
