ETHICAL FRAMEWORK OF GLOBAL STANDARDS, GUIDELINES AND CODES OF CONDUCT

摘要

In this paper the authors present research on the current ethical framework of global core standards, guidelines, principles and codes of conduct ('standards') related to aquaculture. Questions asked are to what degree these standards include an appreciation for ethical considerations, and to what extent this ethical focus is primarily on consumers' well-being rather than the well-being of the seafood producers. Consumers' well-being refers specifically to issues such as the quality and safety of theseafood products, but also animal welfare and global environmental issues. A core question is to what extent there might be an asymmetry in the standards' treatment of ethical issues, in favour of seafood consumers over seafood producers.
